Pond Ponderings

I love my fish-pond. I regard the area in the photo on the right as my "office". I can't draw there, because the trees shed a sticky waxy residue - as I discovered when I tried!

Of course, it isn't really a fish-pond as much as a dog and frog pond... Jet, the Australian Shepherd, absolutely loves that pond. He splashes in it, rolls in it, snuffles it, and spreads it throughout the house. He is a very sharing dog..a lot of that pond ends up in my shoes and hair, and on whatever I'm wearing. I particularly dislike getting it in my shoes and having to squelch around until it dries.. scaring all the birds and lizards.

I love watching the little tadpoles grow. Tadpoles are the happiest, friskiest, most adorable little creatures. They cheer me up immensely!  The swimming pool, after the floods eight years ago, was full of frogs. Half the road, (the one with the spooky-eyed Ridge-back) had been washed into it, and I couldn't afford to get it fixed.

When I eventually did, I had to put in this pond for the frogs. It was a busy season, that year, running from pool to pond with loads of frogs and long bead-like trails of frog-spawn! My workers thought I was absolutely nuts. They are terrified of frogs.

In Africa, Frogs are the messengers of death. So I remove frogs for them, they sort out some of the larger spiders for me. Everyone is happy!
